Councillor James Pasternak was first elected to Toronto City Council in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018. Councillor Pasternak sits on Mayor John Tory’s Executive Committee as the current Chair of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee and Chair of North York Community Council. Previously James served as an elected official on the Toronto District School Board.   James was born in Bathurst Manor and James and his wife Lynn and four children have been living in Ward 6 (York Centre) for over 30 years. James has been a tireless advocate for Israel and the Jewish community.  He helped create an anti-hate rally policy at the City of Toronto and worked tirelessly to stop Al Quds Day marches; he pushed for the updating of the city's antiquated anti-discrimination policy; fought to remove a hate group from Pride Parade; hosted various Israeli delegations at City Hall; started the annual Israel flag raising; hosting Rosh Hashanna, Purim and Chanukah celebrations at City Hall;  James successfully fought to remove the group High School Students Against Israel Apartheid from a local high school; James accompanied Mayor John Tory and a delegation of dozens on a trade mission to Israel;  James is the recipient of the Russian-speaking community's Prestige Award.
