Change Talk: Jewish Wisdom on Making Positive Life Changes

In Jewish tradition, one of the major perspectives and themes of what makes us human, is our ability to make good decisions and positive life changes, both personally and relationally, as free willed human beings. Yet, actually following through with these changes and making them stick is described as a task more difficult than conquering major cities in battle or a mastering a page of the Talmud! In this presentation, I will share Jewish wisdom, as well as psychotherapeutic literature (especially Motivational Interviewing) on how to make positive life changes, in many different areas in a way that is sustainable and reachable. I will provide an opportunity for a live demonstration of a Change Talk, with a guest, who is thinking about one area where they want to improve. I will also plan to provide a sample worksheet that can allow others to practice having Change Talk with themselves and others.
