Widespread belief in reason and science is a good thing. The residual belief that reason and science somehow render religious beliefs, beliefs in miracles in particular, unreasonable or unscientific, is dubious. This additional belief persists due to the very best of outmoded early 18th century philosophy, notably championed by the Scottish philosopher and historian, David Hume. In this lecture and discussion, we will discuss some problems and alternatives to this hyper-conservative approach to religion.

Jesse Shore was the assistant rabbi at Shaarei Shomayim Congregation in Toronto.  He pursued his ordination and a Masters in Bible at Yeshiva University.  Jesse's interests are in rabbinic literature, bible and analytic philosophy.
